Tax Fraud Coverage with Legal and IDT Plans

With tax season upon us, voluntary legal and identity theft plans can offer employees another layer of protection. Not all legal and identity theft protection plans are the same though. LegalShield and IDShield provide the protection needed at an affordable monthly rate.

With IDShield, if a participant is a victim of tax fraud, a dedicated Licensed Private Investigator (“LPI”) can help guide the participant through the IRS calls and paperwork to help ensure their identity is restored to its pre-theft status. As a proactive approach, IDShield also monitors a participant’s Social Security Number (SSN) and other Personally Identifiable Information (PII) and will send an alert if a discrepancy is found.

LegalShield provides participants with direct access to a dedicated law firm that can provide assistance with tax audit and collection-related legal matters. Advice, consultation, and even legal representation of the participant can be provided.

These benefits provide the legal and identity/online privacy protection needed in today’s world.

Finances Continue to Be a Primary Stressor

While 2024 may see an easing of inflation, employee financial wellness remains a primary objective for companies seeking to improve talent acquisition and retention.

According to the American Psychological Association (APA), in 2023, the economy was the second cause of day-to-day stress in American adults’ lives (64%), followed by money (63%)[1]. Those statistics are supported by LegalShield Business Solutions’ 2023 member service intakes, placing Consumer Finance as the second highest service request category, slightly below Estate Planning.

When someone undergoes problems related to insurance or billing

disputes, tax matters, bankruptcy, credit repair, etc., the financial impact is often accompanies by stress. Having a knowledgeable lawyer guiding that person to take proper steps toward resolution can help minimize the monetary impact and ease their mind, too.

By offering a legal benefit, employers enable their teams to access a local, dedicated provider law firm for a fraction of that cost and potentially save thousands of dollars annually [2].

Hiring a lawyer costs an average of $300 per hour [3]. But for a small monthly payroll deduction, a legal protection benefit provides review, advice, and consultation on most common personal consumer finance matters, including:

  • Consumer Disputes: Utility bills, home contractors, warranties
  • Debt Disputes: Credit card debt, student loans, collection agency harassment, medical billing
  • Tax Problems: IRS audits, tax refunds, tax liens, back taxes, questions about Middle Class Tax Refunds, and other tax rebates or Child Tax Credit
  • Insurance Disputes: Health and car, home and renters, life
  • Real Estate: Mortgages, security deposit, property damage, real estate contracts
  • Renter/Tenant Issues: Negotiation of leases, evictions, security deposits

They can expect a response in four hours or less. Perhaps the employee doesn’t have the time for a phone conversation, especially at work. They can schedule a convenient time to speak via the LegalShield web portal or the LegalShield mobile app.
