The Rise in Cyber Attacks at the Workplace
Since 2004, October has been declared as Cybersecurity Awareness Month and serves as a reminder the threat that faces both employers and employees on an everyday basis. This year’s campaign theme is “See Yourself in Cyber” and focuses on the people part of cybersecurity. Over half of cyberattacks are a result of phishing schemes. These socially engineered tactics are becoming the norm and companies are even more at risk, as their employees have become prime targets.
Employees of Twilio, Door Dash and Uber were recently targeted by a phishing scheme, bringing a spotlight to these growing cyber threats in the workplace. With the blending of work and home, remote and hybrid work options, and multiple device usage, an identity theft protection benefit that provides online privacy and device protection is vital in today’s world.
While a company’s security team is responsible for mitigating cyber risk, their HR teams do also share a responsibility in protecting the identity of employees. In addition to providing holistic benefits that support the whole person, companies that provide an identity theft (IDT) and online privacy protection plan like IDShield, are ensuring an employee’s identity and privacy are protected during and after working hours.
An IDT plan offered at the workplace can also be a great part of a company’s cybersecurity strategy. In the event the company is a victim of a cyberattack, employees can have peace of mind knowing that their identity is being monitored and they have access to consultation and restoration services. If you focus on helping employees understand their personal cybersecurity risk and protecting them, they also will be more aware to spot workplace threats.
IDShield has partnered with Trend Micro, a global cybersecurity company, and provides a VPN, anti-malware protection, device security, and a password manager. Along with consultation and full-service identity restoration, IDShield also provides online privacy and reputation management services.
