Employees Demand More Education About their Benefits and Are Interested in Legal and IDT Benefits
Many of us in the employee benefits profession cannot help but notice that employees don’t always seem to fully understand their workplace benefits and what benefits are truly even offered to them by their employer. Employees want and expect their employer to provide more and better education about their benefits options. We recently surveyed full-time benefit-eligible individuals nationwide and from various age cohorts to gain further insight into their preferences and expectations around benefit communications, including their awareness and participation in legal and identity theft protection offerings.
Here are some highlights of our findings:
- 52% of employees do not feel they receive enough communication regarding their benefits.
- 81% of employees would like information throughout the year regarding their benefits tied to real-life events and topics.
- 27-31% of employees have no idea whether an identity theft (or group legal plan) is available to them at work.
We also found that employees want help with legal and identity theft concerns.
Almost half of the employees surveyed (42%) experienced a legal matter in 2022. Among those surveyed that experienced a legal issue, 68% said they would be interested in enrolling in a legal plan at work.
More than half of employees (60%) experienced an identity theft attempt. Within that group, 51% said they were interested in enrolling in an identity theft protection plan at work.
As part of our implementation process, we provide a marketing and communication strategy that includes educational content that can be shared prior to open enrollment and throughout the year to promote both participation and utilization.

Preparing a Will with LegalShield is Now Easier than Ever!
LegalShield has added a new digital Will questionnaire experience available through both the LegalShield Web Portal and the mobile app. This easy-to-use, step-by-step process allows participants to provide the information needed to complete their Will even faster. Plan participants can now enter their information electronically and submit it to their law firm for review. A provider lawyer will call the participant to discuss the content of the Will and then will send the final document to the participant within five business days.
