LegalShield Disrupts the Traditional Provider Network Model

The primary purpose of a group legal plan is to provide affordable legal access while removing employees’ anxiety around finding an experienced lawyer. Requiring employees to find their own lawyers while introducing the potential for costs is counterintuitive and counterproductive.

In a study conducted by LegalShield, 34% of people who needed to hire a lawyer spent a day or longer and 54% spent 1-5 hours vetting a lawyer or law firm before reaching out. LegalShield provides plan participants with direct access to a dedicated provider law firm, eliminating the need for research.

Many assume that the most extensive lawyer network, featuring in- and out-of-network coverage and costs (similar to a doctor or dental network), is suited to meet customers’ demands. However, this is not true. Searching for lawyers who have experience in particular areas of law is time-consuming, potentially confusing, and stressful to consumers; it’s similar to trying to identify and work with unfamiliar out-of-network doctors.

In reality, group legal plans with the most extensive networks are not better if they cannot guarantee 100% coverage with 100% responsiveness, making work for the customer. LegalShield’s Employer Group Legal Provider Networks white paper explores this and other common problems associated with traditional provider networks, while also introducing proven solutions when offering a voluntary benefit.

Legal Benefits Help Increase Peace of Mind During Major Life Events

A legal protection benefit can help employees with a wide range of personal legal matters, from Will preparation to traffic matters to landlord/renter disputes. Legal benefits can also help improve employees’ wedding planning experience.

In a recent survey by LegalShield, couples who had a lawyer by their side experienced fewer stressful moments and more positive emotions approaching their big day.

Survey Findings:

  • 56% had to terminate a contract with a vendor, of which 83% hired a lawyer for assistance.
  • 52% who hired a lawyer cited the current economic conditions as having a “major effect” on their wedding planning.
  • 72% of participants needed legal support for marriage-related legal services (name change, prenup, etc.)

With 40% of couples going into credit card debt to finance their wedding, having a lawyer help them navigate the numerous vendor contracts required will help protect their finances. Hiring a lawyer the traditional route though could cost an average of $300 per hour. For an affordable rate, LegalShield provides document review, advice, and consultation on most common wedding-related matters, including:

  • Contract reviews (e.g., vendors, lease, rental)
  • Prenuptial and postnuptial agreements
  • Name change
  • Home purchase or sale
  • Creating a Will or trust
